For an interlocking brick base, such as beneath a patio or walkway, we recommend a minimum of 6" of A-Gravel (0-3/4) compacted in layers every few inches. On top of this, use 2" of APB (HPB) as your leveling gravel before placing the bricks.

The material placed between interlocking bricks after they are laid is called polymeric sand (Polysand). When water is applied, it hardens in the joints, helping to secure the bricks in place.
